The Top of My Costume List (with The Marvelous Book of Magical Mermaids from Klutz)

For me, Halloween is serious business--a holiday that’s all about dressing up and eating copious amounts of candy? Yes, please!

In preparation for this annual day of awesomeness, I keep a running list of all of the costume ideas I want to try--including favourites like Ashley Spinelli, Ramona Flowers and Janice from the Muppets. Some are simple and easy to throw together and some will require some serious planning, but I hope to have each one checked off one day.

Near the top of my costume list sits my white whale--Cher’s awesome Halloween costume in Mermaids. As a proud handmade Halloween-er, checking this one off my list will be the ultimate challenge. But the year I pull it off, I will have won Halloween! Till then, I'll have to get my fix from some finned friends of my own.

The Marvelous Book of Magical Mermaids is Klutz’s latest version of paper doll play and comes with more than 200 pretty accessories to mix and match. And just like the equine version of this popular book, the outfits are lush, colourful and totally over the top!

After creating sailor mermaid, mermaid Cleopatra, a pretty coral mermaid and a mermaid with troll doll hair, my mermaid craving has officially been filled and I can investigate more reasonable options for this year's costume. Plus, all this paper doll play has given me some awesome new ideas to add to my costume list for years to come!

Holiday Fashion Fancy (with Paper Fashions)

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

That’s right, now that my birthday has come and gone, I am finally ready to let the Christmas festivities begin! And with so many parties, get-togethers and family gatherings to attend, I’m planning out my perfect holiday wardrobe for all occasions.

But I don’t want to break the bank! Christmas is a pretty pricey time after all, so I’m planning out an imaginary Christmas closet for all of the thrill with none of the cost. And with a little help from the fabulous Paper Fashions from Klutz, this holiday season is starting to look very merry and bright!

Pretty peplum and a lacy skirt for those fancy dinners! A cool maroon coat with funky printed tights for a Christmas party with my friends! Santa-inspired outerwear to combat the chill! And a striped tee and jeans with a Christmas bow on top for the big day!

And here’s where the magic really happens… After I plan out my perfect holiday lineup, all I have to do is search through my closet for pieces and patterns that fit all the things I love about my fantasy fashions, and voila, my holiday wardrobe is complete!

Klutz's newly boxi-fied format makes it easier than ever to wrap and give crafty do-it-yourself-style gifts this year. Wrap it up!

Paper Fashions Fix

Summer is my favourite season for fashion. Bright colours, flowy dresses, cute accessories; I love them all! It's the time of no muss, no fuss, throw it on and go casual, and I couldn’t be more pleased that this season has finally rolled around.

And while my budget may not be as big as my ambitions, I found a way to get my summer style fix with Paper Fashions by Klutz.

There are so many colours, patterns and stylish stencil silhouettes to choose from, so you can create any outfit with the simple snip of your scissors. I filled my fantasy closet with tons of trendy summer pieces!

White Hot Pants and a Marvelous Lace Maxi

The best thing about this cool little kit is, if you can’t find the pattern you’re looking for, any scrap of paper can serve as inspiration.

Now, if only real clothes were this easy to create!
